ERCO offers sustainable lighting solutions that are extremely efficient in application and produced with resource conservation in mind. For this commitment, the company has now once again been awarded the EcoVadis Silver Medal.

EcoVadis is a globally leading platform for documenting the sustainability performance of companies. The organisation also supports supply chain analysis and compliance to help identify risks and comply with statutory provisions such as the German Supply Chain Duty of Care Act.

The evaluation includes 21 sustainability criteria across categories such as “Environment”, “Labour and Human Rights”, “Ethics” and “Sustainable Procurement”. After receiving its first award in 2024, ERCO not only maintained its silver status this year, but also improved its score by 3 points. By being awarded, ERCO ranks among the top 15% of over 100,000 companies assessed in 2025. In the overall evaluation, the specialist in LED architectural lighting achieved 92 out of 100 points – just three points shy of the gold medal. ERCO performed above the industry average in all categories.

“We view sustainability as an integral part of our corporate strategy. For us, as a medium-sized company not yet obligated to report on sustainability, assessing the status quo of our processes was an important step – and winning the Silver award again is a great success. The EcoVadis classification and the improvement in our overall score confirm our consistent commitment to sustainable production and the application of our lighting solutions. The motivation to achieve gold certification is strong and we will continuously improve our corporate processes in line with sustainability criteria”, says Marcus Schramm, General Manager of ERCO.

The Silver Medal is not only an important milestone for the company itself, but also a decisive factor for project partners. For example, criteria for a sustainable, transparent supply chain on the manufacturer’s side are confirmed by the EcoVadis award.

ERCO Greenology is the sustainability strategy for developing durable luminaires. Through the “Lighting Durability” approach, ERCO designs and builds products with a service life of at least 20 years. The products are highly effective in use: Thanks to high-precision lighting technology systems developed in-house, light is directed precisely onto the target surface without scattering losses. This ensures light is used only where needed.

Recolight has announced the publication of its first One-Off Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), developed for Raytec’s SPARTAN Linear Range. This marks a major milestone in Recolight’s expanding EPD service offering and reflects the growing demand for verified environmental data across the lighting sector.

Raytec, based in Ashington, manufactures all products in-house and provides specialist LED lighting solutions for hazardous, industrial, transport, and security applications. By obtaining an EPD through Recolight’s One-Off EPD service, Raytec now has verified environmental metrics for its flagship products; supporting transparent communication and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable lighting.

This milestone highlights the flexibility of Recolight’s One-Off EPD service, which is designed for generating a small number of EPDs or for ad-hoc product-level declarations. The service is delivered using the One Click LCA platform and independently verified for publication by EPD Hub. Raytec’s declaration is now publicly available on the EPD Hub platform.

From data submission to Recolight to publication of the finished EPD took less than 4 months.

Max Robson, Environmental Metrics Manager at Recolight, commented:“We’re proud to have delivered our first One-Off EPD for Raytec’s SPARTAN Linear range. This is the first step in our commitment to helping lighting manufacturers navigate the complexities of product-level environmental reporting. Manufacturer of sustainable lighting solutions, LEDVANCE, has secured UMSUG (Unmetered Supply User Group) codes for a number of its streetlighting lamps to further support its clients – particularly local authorities, councils and others with responsibility for town planning and management.

The 13-digit UMSUG (or charge) codes are assigned to individual solutions, and enable the Unmetered Supplies Operator (UMSO) and Meter Administrator (MO) to accurately calculate the electricity usage for each unique luminaire.

The codes allow for accurate billing when unmetered supplies are being used, and the usage has to therefore be calculated by the network operators. The use of the codes enables the accurate calculation of energy consumption, which in turn reduces the risk of over or under payments for the amount of electricity used.

Using charge codes also supports improved operational efficiency. Not only does it save time and resources when compared to metered applications, it also allows for better auditing of equipment and forward planning with regard to energy consumption and maintenance.

LEDVANCE’s range of streetlighting solutions have the ability to save significant levels of energy – up to 60 percent – when used instead of conventional HID (High-Intensity Discharge) lamps. LEDVANCE offers within the UMSUG Program 17 different LED replacement products for HID conventional Lamps, like HQL (High-Intensity Quantum Dots) LED and NAV LED, in different sizes, light colours and wattages, with a light output up to 11 700 lumen.

Nelo Neves, Managing Director from LEDVANCE said: “By adopting UMSUG codes for a wide range of our streetlights, we are simplifying billing for many of our clients. There are many reasons to switch to LED streetlights for energy efficiency and improved lighting; and the addition of UMSUG codes makes the LEDVANCE solutions even more appealing.”

Sustainable lighting innovator takes home Net Zero Achievement and Most Outstanding Business accolades

EGG Lighting, the Glasgow-based circular lighting specialist, has been recognised with two major awards at the Glasgow Business Awards, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central on Thursday 2nd October.

The company secured both the Net Zero Achievement Award and the Most Outstanding Business Award, cementing its position as a leader in sustainable infrastructure and circular economy practices within the lighting sector.

The Net Zero Achievement Award recognises EGG Lighting’s work in making circular lighting a practical reality. Rather than simply discussing sustainability, the company has delivered tangible results through remanufacture, compliance, and measurable carbon reduction across its operations.

The Most Outstanding Business Award reflects the company’s growth whilst maintaining focus on technical excellence, commercial integrity, and ethical business practices.

“These awards recognise our commitment to real sustainability and responsible growth,” said Brian O’Reilly, Managing Director of EGG Lighting. “They’re a credit to the whole EGG Lighting team – from innovation to delivery.”

Powering the shift to circular services

EGG Lighting exists to power the shift from throwaway assets to circular services. The company envisions a world where infrastructure is no longer discarded but continuously improved, leading a transformation that replaces wasteful, one-time product cycles with smart, trackable, and service-driven models that extend life, reduce carbon, and create enduring value.

The company’s remanufacturing process has already repurposed over 4,000 lighting fixtures, helping organisations across its client base to significantly reduce their carbon footprint and demonstrating the commercial viability of circular economy principles in the lighting industry.

Recent parliamentary recognition

The Glasgow Business Awards success follows a period of significant recognition for EGG Lighting. In September 2025, the company won the Environmental Award at the Inspiring City Awards, which led to a formal commendation in the Scottish Parliament.

The parliamentary motion praised EGG Lighting’s “leadership in helping businesses reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions across Glasgow” and recognised “the dedication of staff and management in advancing energy efficiency, green technology and environmental education.”

In October 2025, following the Glasgow Business Awards win, EGG Lighting received a second Scottish Parliament commendation for the Most Outstanding Business award. This acknowledged the company’s “innovative approach to sustainable lighting solutions” and its “significant contribution to the city’s green economy,” noting that EGG Lighting’s commitment to the circular economy and net zero targets aligns with Glasgow’s environmental goals.

Collingwood Lighting has supplied the lighting to help artist Sarah Nelson realise her dream of a net zero carbon home which featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs TV show.

Lighting is very important for Sarah who lives and works from the house and attached studio.

In the living areas she specified Collingwood’s 1901 spotlights, which she can rotate and tilt to direct light where she wants it. The fittings have a contemporary black cylindrical design and produce a warm light of 2700K for a relaxing atmosphere.

To create an intimate but modern feel around the eating area, the company also supplied its Linear Prism fitting in black which is suspended above the table. With colour switchable options to choose what light source she wanted, Sarah opted for a warm light of 3,000K.

And for the gallery hall Sarah chose the company’s OKTO 4 architectural lights. They have a similar sleek black cylindrical design as the 1901 spotlights and provide ambient lighting for large areas with their 85o beam angle.

Commenting on the installation, Sarah explains: “I wanted energy efficient LED lighting with a modern contemporary design. The black, sleek design of all the fittings really work as a visual statement, especially when set against the textured grey Hempcrete walls.”

In the studio, where she works, Sarah specified industrial looking lights with Collingwood’s Caiman Versa anticorrosive fitting. The two fittings are suspended from the steel ridge beams, and their steel bodies work well set against the bare hempcrete walls and this exposed metal girder. With plenty of glazing facing north, the studio has an abundance of natural diffuse light for her work, which the light fittings supplement as it gets dark with a cool white light of 5700K that is similar to natural light.

Modern LED fittings not only offer adaptable lighting solutions but are extremely energy efficient, something that is vital to Sarah who wanted a sustainable solution.

The timber frame building uses Hempcrete for insulation. This bio-based product is carbon negative because it uses material from the hemp plant which absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Sarah chose to leave the Hempcrete exposed on the internal walls.

The building has also got an air source heat pump and solar panels to provide power for the lighting and sockets, and the heating and hot water. In addition, the ceiling is clad in plywood, and Sarah sourced the kitchen units from freecycle and used plywood offcuts for the kitchen unit doors.

Commenting on her new home and studio she says: “I have shown that you can build a sustainable zero carbon building that is very individual and good looking. My emphasis has been on energy saving solutions, but that does not mean that you must sacrifice style.

As an artist light is very important to me and Collingwood’s fittings allow me to achieve what I believe in and create and showcase a space that is visually stunning.”

  • “This event has established itself as a must attend event for anyone serious about sustainability within the lighting Industry.” – Mike Edwards, Verde Photon

Looking ahead

Ray Molony, who co-organised the event and curated the agenda, said: “With sustainability now at the heart of lighting product development, design, and specification, Circular Lighting Live has become a vital platform for collaboration and innovation. By tackling barriers, sharing knowledge, and embedding circularity as standard practice, the UK lighting industry is leading the way towards a truly sustainable future.”
